Etymology[edit]

Pluralized form of *spagètis, borrowed from Italian spaghetti.

Noun[edit]

spagèčiai m pl

  1. (neologism, cooking) spaghetti
    Hypernym: makaronai
    Patiekite su išvirtais spagečiais.
    Serve with cooked spaghetti.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Not documented in most dictionaries despite being used commercially. makaronai (noodles; pasta) is nonetheless still preferred at shops.
  • In the singular, indeclinable spagèti is generally used instead of *spagètis, except possibly for one singular strand of spaghetti.
