Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تقویم (takvim, “a straightening, putting in proper order, showing the correct state of, the correct times or places of celestial phenomena etc. hence an almanac, a calendar”),[1] from Arabic تَقْوِيم (taqwīm, “calendar”), verbal noun of قَوَّمَ (qawwama).[2]
