From Proto-Germanic *warmaz, whence also Old English wearm, Old Saxon warm, Old Frisian warm, Old High German warm, Gothic *š…šŒ°š‚šŒ¼šƒ (*warms). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gŹ·Ź°er- (ā€œwarm, hotā€) or alternatively *wer- (ā€œto burnā€).
