Etymology[edit]
Popularized by the book of the same name first published in 1991 and written by Finnish theologian, therapist and author Tommy Hellsten; he has stated in an interview that he overheard the idiom while visiting the United States,[1] and it is almost certainly a variant of the English elephant in the room.
