Maltese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Sicilian fileccia, itself borrowed from Old French fleche, from Vulgar Latin *fleccia, of Frankish origin. The voicing of the obstruents seems irregular (perhaps expressive for the swift movement).

Pronunciation[edit]
