Etymology[edit]

yew +‎ berry

Noun[edit]

yewberry (plural yewberries)

  1. The berry of the yew tree.
    • 1895, The Boy's Own Annual, volume 18, page 587:
Indeed the form, as well as the foliage of the shrub — it is not worthy of being called a tree — is very like that of a Yew. The fruit, when ripe, is the same colour and size, and has about as much taste as a Yewberry.
