Luxembourgish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly borrowed from German Eifel, which see. Alternatively from some local dialect, but most Eifel dialects have Eefel. This latter would also be expected for an inherited Luxembourgish form. (Luxembourgish äi requires Middle High German ī, but this word has ei.)

Pronunciation[edit]

Proper noun[edit]

  1. Eifel (mountain range in western Germany)
