Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish چاتردی (çatırdı, “a continued or repeated clattering or chattering noise”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish چاتر (çatır, “a clashing, clattering, crashing sound”), from Ottoman Turkish چات (çat, “a clapping or sharp thumping noise”),[2] morphologically çat + -ır + -tı.
