Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Coined by Turkish writer, poet and literary critic Nurullah Ataç, perhaps first in the form *özügür.[1] From the combination of öz (self) and gür, the second part possibly influenced by Arabic حُرّ (ḥurr, free, unimpeded).[2]
