Etymology[edit]

Inherited from a Maghrebi Arabic word for “posterior”. Compare Tunisian Arabic زعكة (zaʕka, woman’s buttocks). Probably at first used for a homosexual man (treated as the main sense by Vassalli) and then generalised.
