Etymology[edit]

According to Petrounias[1] αν- (an-) privative + έξοδο (éxodo, expense) +‎ -ος (-os), different from the Hellenistic ἀνέξοδος (anéxodos, without outlet). According to Babiniotis,[2] from ἀνέξοδος, the modern sense being attested since 4th century.
