Etymology[edit]
Possibly akin to μείρομαι (meíromai, “to receive”), μέρος (méros, “part”). Alternatively borrowed from a Paleo-Balkan language, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰer- (“to bring”) akin to Ancient Greek φερνή (phernḗ, “dowry”).[1]
