Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Byzantine Greek λαρδί(ο)ν (lardí(o)n, “lard”), diminutive of Koine Greek λάρδος (lárdos), from Latin lārdum/lāridum (“bacon fat”), perhaps borrowed from Ancient Greek λαρινός (larinós, “fatty”).
