Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Formally similar to φάραγξ (pháranx, ravine). Sometimes connected with σέσηρα (sésēra, to grin), but this is semantically unprobable. It is rather a Pre-Greek word, in view of the suffix.
