From the Hellenistic Koine Greek τηγανητόν (tēganētón), neuter of *τηγανητός.[1][2] By surface analysis, τηγάνι (tigáni, frying pan) +‎ -ητός (-itós, form of -τός, suffix for adjectives). Also see the Hellenistic synonym τηγανιστός (tēganistós).
