From Middle Persian ʾcydhʾk' (azdahāg), a loanword from Avestan 𐬀𐬲𐬌⸱𐬛𐬀𐬵𐬁𐬐𐬀 (aži.dahāka), name of a mythical serpent in Zoroastrianism.
