Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *āŋla- (to understand), from Proto-Turkic *āŋ (intelligence, mind).[1]

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (aŋla-, to understand);[2] Kyrgyz аңдоо (aŋdoo, to understand), Southern Altai оҥдоор (oŋdoor, to understand), Karachay-Balkar ангыларгъа (añılarğa, to understand), Uzbek anglamoq (to understand), Uyghur ئاڭلىماق (anglimaq, to listen; to understand), Turkish anlamak (to understand), Azerbaijani anlamaq (to understand).

    If (s/he) doesn't understand the importance of wearing a mask, (then) have (him/her) seated at home.
