Derived from Proto-Turkic *bog- (to tie up, to strangle). Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (boɣun, knuckle), Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (boğun, joint, knot); Bashkir быуын (bıwın, joint; generation), Kyrgyz муун (muun, joint; generation), Uzbek boʻgʻin (joint; generation), etc.
