Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Samic *vuostē, from Proto-Uralic *wasta (“a place opposite or across”).
Cognates include Finnish vasta-, Northern Sami vuosti. Somehow related to вуэсстла (vuesstla) and Northern Sami vuostá.
