Bulgarian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
- Formally, a deverbal noun from наво́дя (navódja, “to direct”), нава́ждам (naváždam, “to draw out”);
- Based on the technical meaning of the term, some scholars have alternatively proposed origin from Proto-Indo-European *néh₂us (“something inert, floating”) (per Goryaev, in regard to Russian не́вод (névod)), from the root of сно́ва (snóva, “to wrap”) + -ода (-oda) (per Iljinsky), or identical to на (na, “on”) + вода (voda, “water”) (in ЭССЯ).
Also attested in Upper Sorbian nawod (“id.”).
