Inherited from Proto-Slavic *naročьnъ. By surface analysis, на (na) + рок (rok, “fate, destiny”) + -ный (-nyj). Compare Old Church Slavonic нарочьнъ (naročĭnŭ), Bulgarian нарочно (naročno), Polish naroczny.
