From Old East Slavic плоскъ (ploskŭ), from Proto-Slavic *ploskъ. Cognate with Russian пло́ский (plóskij), Ukrainian пло́ский (plóskyj), Bulgarian пло́сък (plósǎk), Slovene plȏsk, Czech ploský, Old Polish płoski.
