Inherited from Old East Slavic спѣшити (spěšiti), from Proto-Slavic *spěšiti (to hurry), from *spěxъ (haste), from *spěti (to advance, ripen, hurry) + *-xъ. Equivalent to спіх (spix, hurry) +‎ -и́ти (-ýty).
