Etymology[edit]

From *tuyğu (feeling, sensation; instinct), which appears to be a medieval innovation; derived from the verb *tuy- "to notice; to feel", earliest attested in Old Turkic and Old Uyghur in the meaning "to notice".

Cognate with Kazakh тұйғы (tūiğy, sensation, instinct), Uzbek tuygʻu (sensation, instinct), Uyghur تۇيغۇ (tuyghu, sensation, instinct), Turkmen duýgy (sensation, feeling), Turkish duygu (sensation, feeling), etc.
