Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Samic *juonë, from Proto-Finno-Permic *jane, probably borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yáHnam.

Related to Finnish juoni and Erzya ян (jan). Cognates include Southern Sami juõnn and Skolt Sami joene.
