From *yančuq (pouch), from Proto-Turkic *yān (side).

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (jančïq)/Karakhanid [script needed] (jančuq, pouch);[1] Kyrgyz жанчык (jancık, pocket), Uzbek yonchiq (pocket), Khakas нанчығ (nançığ, pouch), Tuvan чанчык (çançık, pouch).
