Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Turkic *yeŋe (“elder brother's wife”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (jengä, “older male relative's wife”); Kazakh жеңге (jeñge), Kyrgyz жеңе (jeŋe), Uyghur يەڭگە (yengge), Khakas ниге (nige), Yakut саҥас (sañas, “older male relative's wife”).
