From *sekir- (to jump), from Proto-Turkic *sēk- (to jump).[1]

Cognate with Kazakh секіру (sekıru), Kyrgyz секирүү (sekirüü), Uzbek sakramoq (to jump), Yakut эккирээ (ekkiree, to jump on the spot), etc.
