Etymology[edit]

The basic meaning is “swelling”, from Proto-Indo-European *tuHr-so-, from *tuHr- *turH- (to swell), whence also թուռ (tʻuṙ), and perhaps թոռ (tʻoṙ, lobe of the ear) and թուրծ (tʻurc). Cognate with Ancient Greek σωρός (sōrós) and Czech tvář.
