A Semitic borrowing: compare Akkadian 𒇒𒌓𒀀 (kupru, bitumen, pitch), whence Aramaic כּוּפְרָא / ܟܘܦܪܐ (kūp̄rā, pitch, tar; asphalt) and Arabic كُفْر (kufr, pitch, tar).

      Ew asen ayr cʻənker iwr; Ekaykʻ arkcʻukʻ ałiws ew tʻrcescʻukʻ zayn hrov. Ew ełew nocʻa ałiwsn i tełi kʻari, ew kupr i tełi šałaxoy.
      And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.
