Etymology[edit]
From אָטוֹם (“an atom”) + ־י (-í, “-ic, -ish, -like”), through European languages, from Latin atomus (“smallest particle”), from Ancient Greek ἄτομος (átomos, “indivisible”), from ἀ- (a-, “not”) + τέμνω (témnō, “I cut”).
