From הָלַךְ (halákh) + לְ־ (l'-) + איבוד / אִבּוּד (ibúd); hence literally “to go to loss”.

הלך לאיבוד / הָלַךְ לְאִבּוּד • (halákh le'ibúd) third-singular masculine past (pa'al construction)
- (of a person) To get lost, to lose one's way, to get turned around.
- (chiefly of a thing) To get lost, to disappear.
