Etymology[edit]

Shared word throughout Semitic languages. Compare Ugaritic 𐎒𐎐𐎐𐎚 (snnt), as well as Akkadian 𒋆𒄷 (/⁠sinuntu⁠/), from which are descended Aramaic סְנוּנִותׇא /‏ ܣܢܽܘܢܺܝܬܳܐ (sənūniyatā) and Arabic سُنُونُو (sunūnū).
