Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *batgak (swamp, marsh), from the same root of باتمق (batmak, to sink); cognate with Azerbaijani bataq, Bashkir батҡаҡ (batqaq), Chuvash путхах (puthah), Kazakh батпақ (batpaq), Kyrgyz баткак (batkak), Turkmen batga, Uyghur پاتقاق (patqaq) and Uzbek botqoq.
