Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from a development of Proto-Turkic *bas- (to press), the same root of باصمق (basmak). Compare Bashkir баҫҡыс (baśqıs), Kazakh басқыш (basqyş), Khakas пасхыс (pasxıs), Kyrgyz баскыч (baskıc), Tatar баскыч (baskıç) and Uzbek bosqich.
