From Sogdian [script needed] (bōdisaf /⁠pwtysβ⁠/), perhaps under influence from Middle Persian [script needed] (bōdāsp /⁠bwtʾsp⁠/), both ultimately from Sanskrit बोधिसत्त्व (bodhisattva).
