Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit ताम्बूल (tāmbūla). The form تَانَبُول (tānabūl) is a learned borrowing from Persian تانبول (tânbul), the form تَامُول (tāmūl) an unlearned adaptation towards a triliteral of it or another Indian descendant of the Sanskrit.
