From Vedic Sanskrit दृळ्ह (dṛḷhá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *dr̥ẓḍʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰr̥ždʰás, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰr̥ǵʰtós (“tough, hardened”), past passive participle of *dʰerǵʰ- (“to become hard, firm”).
