ریاضیات (riyâziyât)

  1. mathematics
    • c. 1423, Ğiyās-ud-Dīn Jamshēd Kāšī, translated by Mohammad Bagheri, Letter to his father, quoted in “A Newly Found Letter of Al-Kashı on Scientific Life in Samarkand”:
از آنجمله پانصد کس باشند که ایشانرا در ریاضیات شروع است واکنون دوازده سال است که بندگی حضرت سلطنت پناهی کشور گشایی خلد الله ملکه بدین فن مشغول است.
az ân jumla pânsad kas bâšand ki êšân râ dar riyâziyât šuru' ast w-aknûn dawâzdah sâl ast ki bandagî-yi hazrat-i saltanat panâhî kišvar gušâyî xallad allâhu mulkahu bad-în fann mašğûl ast.
Among them there are five hundred persons who have begun [to study] mathematics. His Royal Majesty the World-Conqueror [lit. “the Servitude of the Presence of the Refuge of the Sultanate, Conqueror of Countries”], may God perpetuate his reign, has been engaged in this art [i.e., mathematics] for the last twelve years.
