From Classical Syriac ܟܠܩܝܛܪܝܢ (/⁠*kalqiṭārīn⁠/), from Byzantine Greek χαλκιτάριν (khalkitárin), χαλκητάριον (khalkētárion), from classical χαλκάνθη (khalkánthē), χάλκανθον (khálkanthon), χάλκανθος (khálkanthos, blue vitriol), derived from χαλκός (khalkós, copper).
