From the root ق م ح (q-m-ḥ). Cognate with Aramaic קַמְחָא (qamḥā, flour), Hebrew קֶמַח (qémaḥ, flour), Ge'ez ቀምሕ (ḳämḥ, vegetables; leguminous plant), ቀምሐ (ḳämḥä, to eat upon, to graze), Ugaritic 𐎖𐎎𐎈 (qmḥ, flour).
