Etymology[edit]

From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀏 (mae) +‎ را (, genitive affix), the first element of which is from Sanskrit मे (me), variant dative of अहम् (aham).[1]

Cognate with Persian مرا (marâ).
