Etymology[edit]

From the Arabic phrase وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ (wa-s-salāmu ʕalaykum wa-raḥmatu llāhi wa-barakātuhu, May the peace, mercy, and blessing of God be upon you!), a phrase used at the end of speeches, especially Islamic ones.
