Etymology[edit]

From Middle Persian [script needed] (psnd-ytn' /⁠passandīdan⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *pati- (towards, from Proto-Indo-European *préti) + *sand (to seem good, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kand-; cognate with Sanskrit चन्द् (cand, to gladden)).
