Etymology 1[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀁𑀙 (puṃcha), from Sanskrit पुच्छ (púccha), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *púsćas, from Proto-Indo-European *puḱsos. First attested as Old Hindi پونچھ. Cognate with Punjabi پُچّھ (pucch) / ਪੁੱਛ (puccha).
