Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čalpak (dirt, filth), a development of *čalp- (to hit, strike; to make something piebald or multi-colored); cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (çalpak, dirt) and Uyghur چاپاق (chapaq, fump, (eye) gum).
