Etymology[edit]

From کابلی (Kabuli), because when they first appeared it was wrongly believed that they were from Kabul.

Various different words are used to identify them in different regions: In Khorasan, they are called قرشمال (qerešmâl).

In Kerman and Balochistan, as well as Tajikistan, they are called لولی (luli).

They are called سوزمانی (suzmâni) in most southern provinces such as Luristan and Kermanshah.
