Etymology[edit]
From the construct state of ܚܘܵܪܵܐ (ḥwārā, “white”) + ܕܸܩܢܵܐ (diqnā, “beard”), literally “white of beard; white-bearded”. The sense of “senator” is a semantic loan from Latin senātor.
