Etymology[edit]

From the construct state of ܚܘܵܪܵܐ (ḥwārā, white) +‎ ܕܸܩܢܵܐ (diqnā, beard), literally white of beard; white-bearded. The sense of “senator” is a semantic loan from Latin senātor.
