Assyrian Neo-Aramaic[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Likely from a variant form of the verb ܗܵܘܹܐ (hāwē, “to be”), forming unattested *ܝܲܗܘܵܬܝ (*yahwāt) or a corruption of ܗܵܘܝܵܬܝ (hāwyāt), both theoretically being contractions of *ܝܲܗܘܵܐ ܐܲܢ݇ܬܝ (*yahwā at) or *ܗܵܘܝܵܐ ܐܲܢ݇ܬܝ (*hāwyā at) respectively.
