From the causative form of Aramaic בָּן (bān, “to take note of; to teach, explain”); cognate to Hebrew הֵבִין (hevín, “to understand”) and Arabic بَيَّنَ (bayyana, “to make clear”).

- Synonymous with ܦܵܝܹܫ ܚܸܙܝܵܐ (pāyēš ḥizyā), this is very much used as a passive counterpart to ܚܵܙܹܐ (ḥāzē, “to see”).
